Mathematics

At Aston Clinton School, we believe:

  • That all pupils should understand how maths is required for everyday life through encouraging problem solving.
  • In the importance of instilling the enjoyment of discovering new rules and patterns in maths.
  • That pupils should understand that maths is all around us.
  • That there must always be a respect of difference of opinion when discussing different aspects of the maths curriculum.

Our intent in maths is to ensure that all children leave Aston Clinton School with:

At Aston Clinton, these skills are embedded within maths lessons and developed consistently over time. We are committed to ensuring that children are emerged in a variety of skills and methods which are built up over their years with us. Children will be able to recognise the importance of maths in the wider world and through access to application of maths in their lessons, will be confident in using their knowledge and skills in a range of different contexts in the future. The intent of our maths curriculum is to design a curriculum which is accessible to all and will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. We deliver lessons that are creative and engaging and want children to make rich connections across maths ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. As our pupils progress, we intend for them to be able to understand the world, have the ability to reason mathematically, have an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject (from The 2014 National Curriculum for Maths).
