Year 5 Walk Around the Village...
Thu 30 Jan 2020A special day was awaiting the lucky year fives of Aston Clinton school. Since they were learning about the Victorians as their topic, the teachers took the year around Aston Clinton to identify Victorian buildings. They learned that buildings that are Victorian often have bright red brick, bricked up windows-which were very common at Ginger’s Farm- and a lavish amount of chimneys. The windows were bricked up because you had to pay ‘window tax’ in the Victorian times so, instead of having to give their money to the government, the Victorian people filled up the window holes with brick. Looking around the village, year five learned that The Bell Inn is Victorian, as well as our school’s clock school and the Anthony Hall.
“I learned a lot and it was really fun. I would make it better by being able to go closer to the buildings and see them in more detail because when we looked at some houses, we weren’t allowed to go too close” commented Lara in 5GW.
“My favourite part was when we saw the washhouse, the huge white mansion down London Road,” Jayden in 5GW quoted.

Year 6 Heart Day
Thu 30 Jan 2020On one most thrilling Thursday, year six got to look inside a lamb’s heart.
Mrs White, the teacher of 5GW, kindly volunteered to show them the heart in a demonstration and then help out around the classroom. They got to identify main veins and arteries and put their fingers behind the heartstrings... yes, there is such thing! They also learned about how the blood is pushed around the body.
‘It was very fun and educational but quite disgusting. I want to do it again!’ quoted Joshua and Alfie in 6HP.
‘It was really cool to feel the heartstrings. They were really wiry, though it was also a bit disgusting and smelled,’ remarked Thomas in 6MW.
‘I found it really interesting that the muscle in the bottom left chamber of the heart was much thicker than the bottom right because the left chamber pumped blood all the way around the body whereas the right only had to push blood to the lungs,’ commented Rose.

Carols Around The Tree
Thu 19 Dec 2019As a result of the rain and the possibility of a cancelled event, we decided that the show must go on! Each year had the opportunity to sing around the beautiful Christmas tree, but not just that... they even accompanied their songs with some Makaton. Everyone had so much fun singing carols, and even Brigit (our PAT dog) joined in the festivities. Thank you to everyone for helping make the event so special. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Victorian Day
Mon 09 Dec 2019Year 5 Victorian Day:
Victorian Day took place on Wednesday 27thNovember. The Year Fives experienced the school life of an ordinary Victorian child; a similar way it would have been over 100 years ago. It took place in the clock school – an actual Victorian school.
“It was fun but strict. My favourite part was when we had to construct bridges out of lollipop sticks, string and split pins. We also learnt that 12 shillings create £1.” Zoe Prescott Year 5.
When the boys were learning how to march around the playground smartly, the girls were drawing hopscotch with coloured chalk on the concrete playground floor and then they were walking around the clock school with dictionaries precariously balanced on their heads. Numerous lessons came and went such as: handwriting, spelling, maths, bridge making and reading.
“It was very scary because if you were caught talking by a teacher you would have to stand up and get told off in front of the rest of the children. My favourite part was the bridge making. When we got separated and went outside, the boys had to do drills and march and walk smartly across the playground.” Rylee Year 5
This day was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole of Year 5 although it was frightening when you got told off. Hopefully most children in younger years will have an equally enjoyable experience when they move up. -

The Catalysts
Mon 09 Dec 2019Jack And The Catalysts
On 26thNovember 2019, Aston Clinton School were in for a treat. A neighbouring secondary school called Tring Park School took to the stage and performed a wonderful science-themed show called Jack and the Catalysts. They told us about solids, liquids and gases, the water cycle and elements.
‘I loved learning about matter and science in a fun way,’ commented Amelia in year six.
Charlie in year five told us, ‘I loved all of the songs the Catalysts sang.’
‘My favourite part was when Jack didn’t understand what the Catalysts meant when they tried to teach him science… I thought it was really funny,’ reported Elliot in year four.
It is clear to say that this special occasion was thoroughly enjoyed by pupils of all ages. We will be looking forward to it next year!

School Pantomime
Wed 04 Dec 2019On Tuesday 4thDecember, Aston Clinton School witnessed a spectacular pantomime performance… Snow White! Similar to other pantomimes, it was a fun show where the actors interacted with the audience.
It was just like Snow White but with a twist; instead of the seven dwarfs there were forest folk: Giggle box, Goggle box and Google box.
“Spectacular!”
“It was really funny. They even made some of the teachers dance!”

Anti-Bullying Week
Thu 14 Nov 2019At Aston Clinton School we are trying to stop bullying. If your child feels afraid to tell the teacher you can now ask Mr Arnold if you can talk to our PAT dog, Bridget. Not only is Bridget listening, but Mr Arnold is too.
Sometimes there is a power imbalance which means that older children are being mean or more children are being mean. We are doing as much as we can to stop bullying and make our school bully-free.
